Ghandruk Short Hiking |Annapurna Short Trek

Annapurna Short Trek is a short and appealing trek into the Annapurna region that is suitable for a short period of time. The trail takes you through the high village of Dhampus and Potana as well as the beautiful old and historical village of Ghandruk. Annapurna hiking offers the dramatic views of the sceneries along with the diverse geography. It is ideal for people who really want to sample mountain life but really do not want to exert themselves too much. The trail takes in a patchwork of valleys, dense mossy forests, and crystal clear waterfalls. Around every corner, there is a tantalizing glimpse of the high mountains.

Ghandruk Short Trek passes through a variety of ethnic villages mainly inhabited by Gurung, Magar, and Brahmin each with own cultural and social practices based both on Buddhism and Hinduism living in harmony and peace. The main occupations are agriculture, animal
husbandry, and the tourism business. The Annapurna short trek initiates with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Then, we hiking from Phedi to Pothana (1900m) takes about five hours. The trail ascends all the way to Pothana through forests till you reach the village called Dhampus. It is a Gurung village which gives you an opportunity to look at the magnificent views of Annapurna ranges, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu.

The Annapurna region is inhabited by the Gurungs and Magars community: agriculturists of Tibetan origin, the Magars are skilled craftsmen in stone and wood. You will receive a warm welcome to their tea houses and shops. There are many lodges, Gurung museum and traditional houses made of stone slabs. Dwelling through rhododendron and oak forest along with the stunning views of snow-clad mountains such as Annapurna South (7229 m.), Hiunchuli (6441 m.), Annapurna III (7755 m.), Glacier dome (7200 m.) and Fishtail (6997 m.).

Best time to visit Annapurna short Trek:
February to Mid June, September to November is the best time to visit Annapurna region. The weather is just perfect for the trek with clear skies and a cool breeze.

 Annapurna Short Trek Itinerary:

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara
Day 2: Drive from Pokhara to Phedi and Trek from Phedi to Pothana
Day 3: Trek from Pothana to Ghandruk
Day 4: Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul via Birethanti and Drive to Pokhara
Day 5: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

 

Day 1

Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara
The trek initiates with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara on a tourist bus or a private car. The drive would take approximately about six hours. Pokhara, located in central Nepal is a popular destination for adventures and scenic beauty. The major attractions of the city are the pristine lakes, thus also known as ‘City of Lakes’. It is one of the favorite tourist destinations because of the spectacular views of Himalayas. It has been able to attract many travelers due to its topographical structure, serene lake, scenic beauty, and its culture.
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel.


Day 2


Drive from Pokhara to Phedi and Trek from Phedi to Pothana
After having our early morning breakfast, we drive from Pokhara to Phedi. After reaching Phedi, our trekking journey starts to Pothana through forests until you reach the village called Dhampus. It is a Gurung village which gives you an opportunity to look at the magnificent views of Annapurna ranges, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu. The ascent trail follows to Pothana through the forests. This is a small village which is surrounded by forests having marvelous mountain views.
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Hotel.


Day 3


Trek from Pothana to Ghandruk
Today we leave behind Pothana and head towards Ghandruk. The trek would take about 6 hours. The early part of the trek is gradual ascend for almost an hour up to Deurali which passes through oak and mixed forests with splendid views of Manaslu, Annapurna ranges and Mardi Himal. Leaving Deurali, you begin to trek steep downwards to reach Tolkha, a beautiful Magar and Gurung village. Our next destination is Landruk, a village inhabited by mostly Gurung and few Brahmins the trail is a gradual descent passing through terraces and few settlements. Now the steep descent trail moves downwards to the Modi Khola river and crossing the iron bridge you follow steep uphill to reach Ghandruk. There are many lodges, Gurung museum and traditional houses made of stone slabs. You can enjoy here are Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Annapurna III, Glacier dome and Fishtail.

Day 4


Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul via Birethanti and Drive to Pokhara
Our trekking journey has almost come to an end. Today we start trekking from Ghandruk to Nayapul via Birethanti. The trek takes about 5 hours. The trail descends through Kimshe to Shaulo Bazaar. From here your trail goes quite flat until you retrace back to Birethanti. You need to walk almost half an hour to get to Nayapul. Drive from Nayapul to Pokhara by taxi.

Day 5


Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu
Finally, our short trekking journey to Annapurna has come to an end. After having our breakfast, we head back towards Kathmandu. The drove would take about 6 hours. Our representatives will drop you off to your hotel in Kathmandu for relaxation. The rest of the day you can spend by exploring the beautiful city of temples and the world heritage sites.

    • A pair of gloves. Leather with lining and woolen are best.
    • 1 pair of sandals to wear in the cities and in camp.
    • 2 pairs of thin and 2 pair of thick woolen socks.
    • Down jacket, Woolen shirts and thick sweaters for winter December, January & February.
    • Duffle bag or kit bag to carry to gear while trekking.
    • Daypack: toilet items, camera, film towel, soap, a boot etc.

    • 2-4 large plastic bags to separate clean clothes from dirty ones.
