Himalaya Arirang Trek run a Homestay program for people not wishing to stay in hotel accommodation in Nepal but would prefer to get a little closer to everyday Nepali life. we invite our guests to stay in a private house to live with the family members. Living with local people is by far the best way to learn about Nepali culture. The families are hand picked and take their role as carers very responsibly as they host you and guide you in the discovery of their rites, culture and beliefs.
A typical Nepali day begins early with cleaning the house by the elders grandmother/mother or elder sisters may perform this task. Whilst for some tourists this may seem a little outdated for women in the 21st century, this is Nepal and whilst life in the cities of Nepal is gradually changing, it will take a while yet. Age is revered in Nepal, imagine going to the local market with a big bag to shop for vegetables and other groceries, perhaps with a 70 year old grandmother or her 10 year old grandson of the family or quite possibly both.
You will have your own room and be provided with your own key so you can come and go as you please. Normally we match people with families before the guest's arrival so as a relationship can be struck up before actually meeting for the first time.
