The Langtang Region provides a wonderful opportunity to experience the culture of the Tamang people who are the main ethnic group here. These people came down from Tibet around five centuries ago and to all intense and purpose they are Tibetan . The Tibetan Border is only around twenty miles away. There are some fascinating local settlements as well as a good opportunity to study wildlife and bird life along the way.
Trekking into the high valley takes you right into the base of the Nepal Himalaya and provides a true high mountain feel, however the trek is not too stressful, more a steady push up the valley. There is also an extensive glacier system to be discovered in the valley's upper reaches.
There are many ways to vary your time and days in the Langtang Region if you have more time you can choose to add a few days on to the nine day trek and travel on to visit the Sacred Lakes of Gosainkund (4300m) before returning to Dhunche to meet your transport for the journey back to Kathmandu. Alternatively you may choose to carry on from the lakes and trek through the Helambu Region before ending your trek at Sundarijal, situated only an hour or so by bus from your hotel in Kathmandu. Treks in Langtang and Helambu are effectively combined by crossing the Laurebina Pass near Gosainkunda. There are some beautiful forests in Helambu as well as some interesting settlements that are principally populated by Sherpa people. However the Sherpas in this region differ in both customs and language from the Sherpas of the Everest Region. It is also a great area for spotting some interesting rare animals and birds, among them langur monkeys, musk deer, the diminutive furry pikas and also the Red Panda. Trek Adventure Nepal has its roots in this Langtang region.
